HUMAN REMAINS AND ARTIFACTS UNEARTHED IN FRONT OF THE CULTURAL CENTER

With the full support and cooperation of LGU Daanbantayan led by Mayor Sun Shimura, Dr. Jobers Reynes Bersales and his team of archaeologists on Thursday, February 16 conducted archaeological investigation on the site where artifacts and human remains were accidentally unearthed last February 14 by workers digging a drainage ditch along the stretch fronting the Lamberto R. Te Cultural Center in Barangay Poblacion.

The initial assessment is authorized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

According to Dr. Bersales their initial findings reveal that probable age of the burials is 600-800 years old based on Chinese ceramics excavated from the site.

The excavations have now been stopped pending an archaeological impact assessment.

Dr. Jobers Reynes Bersales is Consultant on Museum Affairs, Cebu Province and Co-Project Director, USC-NMP, Northern Cebu Archaeological Project.
