Mayor Sun Shimura graced the culminating activity for the week-long campaign on HIV/AIDS awareness held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the Municipal Function Hall.
In his address, Mayor Shimura shared a poignant story from his early teenage years, reflecting on the fear he felt toward his parents as they imparted lessons about the consequences of illegal activities. These teachings, though daunting, shaped his understanding of right and wrong and instilled a deep awareness of personal responsibility.
Drawing from this experience, he urged students to rise above external influences and reminded them to take charge of their lives, emphasizing the importance of self-determination. “You are the captain of your ships,” he declared, encouraging them to forge their own path and steer toward a future define by their choices, rather than by circumstances or expectations from others.
Present during the event were Dra. Merle Visda, Local Youth and Development Office (LYDO), Dr. Archie Gallego, Principal of DNHS, alongside his dedicated faculty, staff, and student participants, Development Manager Officer Gretchen Castro-Brobo, Assistant Municipal Health Officer Dr. Marielle Dominique Malaga, and Public Health Nurse Charissa Diamos.
