The culmination program of Farmers and Fisherfolks Month happened at the Lamberto R. Te Cultural Center on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, where 70 associations gathered to celebrate their laudable contribution to food security and the local economy.
The event started with a Thanksgiving Mass followed by inspirational messages from municipal officials led by Mayor Sun Shimura, former mayor and Municipal Consultant Vicente Loot, SB Member and Committee on Agriculture Chairman Wendell Rosell, and Vice Mayor Elver Ali Abucay.
Distribution of post-harvest equipment and awarding of cattle certificates to farmer and fisherfolk beneficiaries were spearheaded by Mayor Shimura, Sir Loot, and representatives from the Office of Provincial Agriculturist and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 7.
Afterwards, a festive atmosphere filled the venue with the commencement of parlor games, and singing and dance competitions participated by 22 contestants, with 10 individuals joining the singing contest and 12 groups competing in the dance presentation. The top 5 winners for each category won cash prizes while the rest of the participants received consolation prizes.
All 70 associations each received a cash of P3,000 from Mayor Shimura as a token of appreciation for their vital role in the community.
With the theme “Pagpupugay sa mga Masisipag na Magsasaka at Mangingisda na Katuwang Tungo sa Masaganang Pilipinas”, the Farmers and Fisherfolks Month celebration was facilitated by the Municipal Agriculture Office led by Municipal Agriculturalist-OIC Henry P. Rondina.
