The Municipal Government of Daanbantayan, under the leadership of Mayor Sun Shimura, proudly recognized the outstanding achievements of its student-athletes who brought home medals from the recently concluded Cebu Provincial Sports and Cultural Meet 2025.
During a special recognition ceremony held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, student-athletes from District 1 and District 2, along with their dedicated coaches and school heads, were honored for their hard work, perseverance, and excellence in sports.
Daanbantayan emerged as the overall champion, topping the medal standings with an impressive 75 gold, 48 silver, and 32 bronze medals. This remarkable feat highlights the townβs unwavering commitment to developing young athletes and fostering a culture of sports excellence.
As a token of appreciation, all medalists received cash incentives: β±1,000 for gold, β±800 for silver, and β±500 for bronze.
In his heartfelt message, Mayor Shimura expressed his pride in the athletes’ accomplishments and encouraged them to continue striving for greatness. He emphasized the importance of faith, reminding them to always seek guidance from the Lord as they pursue their dreams and future endeavors.
The momentous event was graced by Vice Mayor Elver Ali Abucay, Municipal Councilor Jupiter Roy Rosell, Municipal Councilor Simplicio “Boy” Mantos, Municipal Councilor Wendell Rosell, ABC President Mark Anthony Luche, District I Supervisor Dr. Eva Casinillo, District II Supervisor Dr. Tony Aplacador, DNHS Principal Dr. Archie Gallego, DCES Principal Jervis Monterde, District coordinators Mrs. Antonietta Rodrigo and Mrs. Jorin Gastadors, as well as SPED teachers, coaches, and trainers.
