In a significant step towards bolstering disaster preparedness and response, the Municipality of Daanbantayan inaugurated the new 24/7 Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRM) Command Center on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
Leading the momentous blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony were Mayor Sun Shimura, Vice Mayor Elver Ali Abucay, Municipal Councilor Boy Mantos, and Municipal Councilor Wendell Rosell.
This two-story facility with a roof deck spans 912 square meters and has a total cost of P18.1 million, a milestone achievement made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Daanbantayan in partnership with RJS Prime Construction, led by Engr. Lee RJ Villapez.
Vice Mayor Abucay, in his heartfelt address, emphasized the critical role of the MDRRMO in ensuring swift and efficient emergency response. He commended the team’s unwavering dedication and response time, recognizing them as a pillar of the municipalityβs disaster resilience efforts.
Mayor Shimura echoed this sentiment, expressing immense pride in the realization of the project. He underscored the lasting impact of the command center, reminding the community that this structure belongs not just to the LGU but to the 98,000 people of Daanbantayan. The Mayor encouraged the MDRRMO team to protect, maintain, and maximize the facility in serving the community.
Designed to function as the nerve center of disaster operations, the new facility will enhance pre-disaster preparedness, real-time emergency monitoring, and post-disaster recovery efforts. It will serve as a communication and decision-making hub, ensuring swift, coordinated, and effective responses to any crisis that may arise.
The inauguration was graced by department heads, punong barangays, Rev. Fr. Gilbert Ytang, municipal employees, and the MDRRMO response team, all gathered to witness this milestone in Daanbantayanβs journey towards a safer and more disaster-resilient future.
