The most awaited field day of the expansive 50-hectare corn model farm situated at Sitio Tunga, Barangay Dalingding took place on Thursday, October 17, 2024, showcasing a successful partnership between the Dalingding Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association (DAARBA), Municipal Agriculture Office, Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 7 (DA-RFO 7), and the Provincial Agriculturist Office.
In his opening remarks, Mayor Sun Shimura expressed profound gratitude to the agricultural sector, particularly during the pandemic when farmers faced numerous challenges. He also acknowledged the vital role of diligent farmers in sustaining crop production while managing the complexities of daily life, which often left them vulnerable to health crises. To support these efforts, Mayor Shimura pledged to enhance insurance provisions for farmers as well as fisherfolks, PWDs, and other indigent members of the community.
The field day featured a number of activities including ceremonial ribbon-cutting for the farm tour, demonstration of combine harvester operations, presentation of crop-cut data, and guided tour of the corn model farm.
Winners of the varietal corn derby were also recognized based on their impressive average yield–1st place: Syngenta NK6410 Cecelia G. Yongco; 2nd place: Dekalb 8282S Charisa T. Lauron; 3rd place β Syngenta NK6130 – Analou V. Mapula; 4th place – Pioneer 3582 Melinda L. Mondejar; 5th place – Advanta Super999 Analou V. Mapula; 6th place – Bioseed Healer 101G Eda L. Mondejar
Gracing the event were Vice Mayor Elver Ali Abucay, SB Member Marvi Louise Loot-Pinos, Municipal Consultant Vicente Loot, Atty. Jose Maria Gastardo, and officials from the Provincial Agriculturist Office, DA-RFO 7 and Municipal Agriculture Office
Also present were representatives from participating seed companies Bayer CropScience, Corteva Agriscience, Bioseed Research, Syngenta, and Advanta Seeds Philippines, and farmers from the 4th district LGUs including Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, Bogo City, Tabogon, Catmon, and Tabuelan.
The Farmers Field Day not only emphasizes the importance of agricultural innovation but also strengthens the community’s commitment to sustainable farming practices, ensuring food security and economic resilience.
