Mayor Sun Shimura was the guest of honor and speaker at the Yakap Bayan program graduation ceremony of the 136 Recovering Persons Who Used Drugs (RPWUDS) on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the Lamberto R. Te Cultural Center.
The RPWUD graduates completed an 18-month aftercare and reintegration modules that involve a holistic approach, incorporating the other facets of their life including personal, familial, spiritual, and livelihood geared towards capacitating the RPWUDs and their families to overcome the challenges they face in their joint recovery journey.
In his message of warmth and support, Mayor Shimura congratulated the graduates for reaching this significant milestone in their personal transformation. He said that completing the program is a testament to RPWUDs dedication to rebuilding their lives and contributing positively to the community.
The mayor reminded the graduates that life is never easy, and everyone faces challenges, regardless of wealth, status, or profession. As they integrate back to society, Mayor Shimura reminded the RPWUDs that ultimately, it is kindness we show to others that leaves a lasting impact
Present during the graduation ceremony were MLGOO Grace Caburnay, MSWD Officer Heide Aplece, Dra. Merle Visda, PMAJ Mark Anthony Villanueva, MADAC Focal Person Grace Navarro, barangay officials, and stakeholders.
