Mayor Sun Shimura graced the closing ceremony of the 5-day training on water search and rescue (WASAR) held at Sampero Rock Beach Resort on Friday, November 11, 2022.
Video presentation of the various activities as well as the distribution of certificates to the graduates and trainers was the highlight of the program.
Initiated by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) together with the Special Operations Group of Coast Guard District Central Visayas, the WASAR training aimed at enhancing the skills and capability in maritime search and rescue.
The 31 participating personnel from MDRRMO, Bantay Dagat, BPAT, and some volunteers attended lectures on water safety, rescue techniques, and rubber boat operations and maintenance.
They also underwent basic swimming strokes and practical exercises on rubber boat preparation, commands and carries. Rescue scenarios that included running a boat to rescue and save people from drowning were likewise conducted. The final activity was the 2-mile swim from Paji Island to the coast of Maya Port.
Instructors of WASAR training are the Coast Guard Special Operations Unit and Sub Station Daanbantayan. 11/11/2022
