Harvesting of the sustainable Corn Production in Sloping Area (SCoPSA) Project

Mayor Sun J. Shimura, along with SB Chair on Agriculture Ali Abucay and Municipal Agriculturist Maria Lina Jugan, yesterday spearheaded the field tour and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the start of corn harvest of the Sustainable Corn Production in Sloping Area (SCoPSA) Project located in Barangay Dalingding. The 3-hectare farm is also planted with other crops, including banana, papaya, and hot pepper.

The SCopSa project aims at helping farmers utilize sloping land area and at the same time will not harm the soil due to reduced soil erosion. This sustainable land use management will not only enhance corn production but also restores ecological balance in sloping areas cultivated with the said crop.

Funded by the Department of Agriculture-7 in coordination with the Provincial Agriculturist Office, project beneficiaries of SCopSa are the Toril Sugarcane Workers Association (TOSWA) and Panaghugpong Kusog Sa Dalingding (PAKUDA).
