The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in coordination with the Municipal Government of Daanbantayan thru the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist has conducted a turn-over and blessing ceremony of the P2.65 million worth of lambaklad (set net) project today, February 19, 2019 at Barangay Agujo.
The lambaklad fishing net, which is 200 meters long by 450 meters wide, is set to benefit 4 fishermen’s associations namely, Bakhawan Fishermen Asssociation, San Vicente Kauswagan Suba Fishermen Association. San Roque Livelihood Fishermen Association, and Agujo United Fishermen Association.
The lambaklad, derived from the Filipino words “lambat “ (net) and “baklad” (corral), is an environmentally friendly fishing method that uses a stationary huge fish trap laid down at about 35 meters under sea.
In attendance were Board Member Sun Shimura, Councilor Ali Abucay, Councilor Bridgette Tancawan, BFAR representative, Municipal Agriculturist Ma. Lina Jugan, and some municipal officers and employees.
